Skull Orchid is one of the many bosses that you can farm in Borderlands 4, and its dedicated legendary drops have made it one of the most popular farming targets in the entire game. You can defeat Skull Orchid in seconds with the right build, which is why this boss is one of the best loot sources in all of Borderlands 4.
Even if you don’t get lucky with one of Skull Orchid’s dedicated legendary drops, you’ll still walk away from the battle with some sweet gear since it’s an Auger Mine boss. It’s also incredibly easy to reset this boss encounter with Moxxi’s Big Encore, so you might spend more time battling Skull Orchid than you’d expect. Here’s how to find and farm Skull Orchid in Borderlands 4.
Borderlands 4 Skull Orchid Location
Skull Orchid is located at Embossed Fault, an Auger Mine in the Grindstone of the Worthy region of Carcadia Burn in Borderlands 4. Just like all Auger Mines, you can’t access Embossed Fault until you’ve cleared the Shadow of the Mountain main quest in Terminus Range. It’s on the other side of the map, but you can complete it pretty early in the main story.
Once you’ve unlocked Auger Mines, just head to Carcadia Burn and make your way to the Embossed Fault Auger Mine in the southern part of Grindstone of the Worthy. The Auger Mine is infested with creeps, which can be super annoying, depending on your build. To make things worse, the creeps in the mine have different elemental affinities, so you’ll need a balanced loadout if you want to take them out for XP and potential loot.
Skull Orchid is waiting for you at the end of the mine. It’s a massive creep with a skull on its back, but it’s surprisingly easy to defeat with just a single red health bar. You can melt it with a fire weapon or just focus your fire on the red tendrils extruding from the skull’s mouth — that’s its weak spot.
There are also smaller creeps in the arena that you can use to revive yourself if you go down.
Skull Orchid Legendary Drops
Skull Orchid has two dedicated legendary drops in Borderlands 4.
|
Legendary |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Oak-Aged Cask Shield |
Vintage: Only has one armor segment with huge capacity and slow recharge. |
|
Roach Pistol |
Flesh Eaters: Shoots eggs that hatch flying roaches when attached to flesh, living or dead. |
|
Faulty Detonator Grenade |
Sticky Trigger: Spawns combo orbs on detonation. |
The three legendaries aren’t particularly strong, but they have their uses for specific builds. Roach shoots eggs that hatch flying insects, but it’s outclassed by most other legendary pistols in Borderlands 4. The Oak-Aged Cask shield is a unique armor shield because it only has one massive segment that gets completely refilled when you collect an armor recharge pickup. It’ll make you really tanky and borderline invincible if you have class abilities that generate armor segment recharge pickups. Then, there’s the Faulty Detonator grenade, which is just like a normal grenade, only with way more explosions.
Since Skull Orchid is so easy to beat (and since the Moxxi’s Big Encore machine is only a few steps away), it’s one of the easiest bosses to farm in Borderlands 4. It can still drop legendaries aside from its three dedicated rewards, so you can get lucky with any of Borderlands 4‘s legendary weapons as long as they’re not tied to other bosses.
